Howlett helps Munster stay on top
Munster maintained its lead in the Celtic League competition with a 25-17 win over Glasgow at the weekend.
Former All Blacks wing Doug Howlett was among the try scorers for the Irish side which now has 22 points from five games, three more than the Welsh-based Ospreys. The two sides have cleared out from the rest of the field with third place held by the Scarlets on 13 points.
In the Energy Cup competition between English and Welsh clubs, Cardiff Blues inflicted a second straight loss on Sale when taking an 18-17 win. Former New Zealand, Crusaders and Highlanders fullback Ben Blair kicked a conversion and a penalty goal for the Blues.
Neither Sale's former All Blacks second five-eighths Luke McAlister nor Cardiff's All Blacks No.8 and captain Xavier Rush started the game.
Northampton beat Bristol 30-17 and managed to achieve the win without having to call on the services of Carlos Spencer or Bruce Reihana.
Saracens went down to Scarlets 17-26 with former All Blacks prop Kees Meeuws scoring a try for the Scarlets.
Meeuws' old team Castres, was on the end of a 28-10 defeat by Toulouse in the Top 14 competition in France.
And Toulon suffered a 37-12 defeat by the club Dan Carter will soon be joining Perpignan. Former Auckland utility back Orene Ai'i scored a try for the Toulon side.
