About the Foundation | Doug Howlett Outreach Foundation

The Doug Howlett Outreach Foundation is a NZ registered charitable trust.

The foundation was established in 2007 to assist NZ children in low socio-economic areas who show promise in both sporting and academic areas.

The Foundation assists all school age children by providing scholarships at 3 levels

1: Primary — Years 1 to 6

The focus at this level is to get as many children active and playing sport as possible. The foundation provides scholarships to 10 primary schools and sports clubs a year to purchase sports equipment for children in this age group.

2: Intermediate — Years 7, 8 & 9

The focus here is developing teamwork. The foundation provides scholarships to 5 sports teams which may include sports equipment and uniforms, coaching resources and training, personal team mentoring from Doug or other experts and even a special guest for team prize giving.

3: Senior — Years 10 and above

This is a 2 year scholarship programme for athletes who show the potential to have a great future in sport. Each winner will receive expert advice and support from a range of experts as well as personal mentoring from Doug. They will also have school and sports fees paid for as well as essential sports equipment to help them succeed.

The main aims of the foundation are:

To promote healthy living and active lifestyles for NZ school age children by encouraging sporting activities in low decile areas
To provide sports equipment, pay school & sports fees and provide personal mentoring where possible
To help children achieve their absolute potential in sport and at school

Initially the foundation supported children who played rugby, league and netball but now the foundation supports children in all sports.

The foundation assists all school age children by providing scholarships at 3 levels.
