Fan of the Year 2006

Congratulations to Roisín - the DH Club Fan of the Year for 2006!

Laydeez and jellybeans of DH.com, it has always been my dream to win an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, so forgive me if I waffle on in true Hollywood emotional acceptance speech-stylee.

Thank you for choosing me as the DH.com Fan of the Year – I guess now I was justified in keeping the FOTM tiara, sash and sceptre – although this has come as something of a very pleasant surprise.

When I joined Doug’s website I never imagined that it would become something of an addiction and I never imagined that not only would I make friends there, but that I would make friends with people I will always care for. Some of them I have met, some I have yet to meet and some maybe I will never meet, but in some or way or another, those people have been right here with me this year.

Those of you who don’t know me won’t realise how close I came this year to the health scare of my life and being far away from my family in Europe meant that I relied on my Doug buds for support. And I wouldn’t, I couldn’t, have done it without you – Orthodeva, Dances_with_Blues, Figjam, Lolo, Plastic Sunflower - *does a Hollywood and gets out the hanky and sniffs I love you ALL*

I finally got to see Doug play in Auckland this year – even though he busted his knee after 10 minutes and I demanded to leave the game (disallowed) and adjourn to the pub to sulk (also disallowed). He did of course manage to score a try before he hobbled off – what a sport! Now I am looking forward to the RWC in France. The All Blacks are a tough team to break into these days, but when the chips are down, we know there is one person who can be relied on to do his duty – and that’s Doug, the TP (do you know who calls you that, Doug?)

Finally I would just like to wish Douglas, everyone at DH.com and their families a wonderful Christmas and a New Year full of love, health, happiness and success.

Roisín's question for Doug:

Douglas, do you ever see yourself following in your more famous brother's footsteps and playing abroad? And if you could choose, who would you play for?

Doug replies:

Hello Roisín, Nice to have met you.
I am very happy playing my rugby in N.Z. To tell you the truth I haven't thought too much of travelling abroad. But... if I were to play rugby overseas. I would probably go to Europe - France and Italy are countries that I have enjoyed touring and could possibly see myself playing in. But who knows what the future holds. Ireland is also appealing..
