GENERAL INFO

In his debut match for the All Blacks, Doug scored 2 tries and went on to score a try in each of his next six test matches. This level of performance has ensured his regular place in the All Black test side. In addition, Doug is the only All Black to have scored 3 tries in a test match against Australia at Eden Park.

Doug scored 3 tries in his first Super 12 game and went on to score 4 tries against the Hurricanes in 2002, which equals the Super 12 record for tries scored in a match. If that wasn't enough his 12 tries in 2003 equaled the New Zealand record for Super 12 tries scored in a season.

He was the leading try scorer in NPC Rugby in 1999, with 8 tries and then became top equal try scorer with 10 tries in 2002.

Doug stamped his mark on Ranfurly Shield rugby when he scored 3 tries against West Coast and a further try against Waikato. Doug produced the goods for the International Colts by scoring 4, 6 and 4 tries in consecutive tournaments.

This remarkable record, which started with representative rugby for Auckland while still at school, continues past the 2003 Rugby World Cup. His 14 test match tries in 2003 was second only to Joe Rokocoko's remarkable 17 test tries in that calendar year.

With 13 tries at the Rugby World Cup Doug is in second place on the All Time list behind Jonah Lomu (with 15 tries).

His 49 test match tries put him in first place on the all time New Zealand try-scoring list.

In 2008 Doug began a new chapter in his rugby career by signing with Munster of Ireland, to play in the Magners League and Heineken Cup competitions in Europe. Munster were immediately successful, being crowned Heineken Cup Champions in May 2008.
