DOUG HOWLETT OUTREACH FOUNDATION
The Doug Howlett Outreach Foundation Charitable Trust has been established to assist disadvantaged children between the ages of 8 - 16 who show promise in both academic and sporting areas.
Initially the Foundation will support children who play Rugby Union, Netball or Rugby League but aims to expand the range of sports it covers in the years ahead. The Foundation will provide financial support to children whose families are unable to meet the cost of club fees, club uniform, sports footwear, school fees, school books and stationery.
It will also provide personal mentoring, support and encouragement from Doug in order to help children achieve their absolute potential.
New Zealand has the fourth highest rate of child poverty of the 30 countries listed as economically developed nations (Source UNICEF). This means that around 300,000 New Zealand children are living in relative or complete poverty. Doug believes all children who wish to participate in sport should have the opportunity to do so and will to use his high profile to actively assist as many children as possible each year.
